Today marks the inaugural celebration of International Moon Day, a day celebrating one of our country's most remarkable and celebrated achievements. On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin rocketed to the moon and walked on it as the nation watched. Those first steps were unforgettable when Neil Armstrong said, "That is one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
The United Nations General Assembly approved International Moon Day on December 9, 2021, after several UN agencies and the Moon Village Association
submitted a proposal to the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs. International Moon Day will be celebrated annually to educate and promote lunar exploration and sustainable use of the moon.
International Moon Day has extra significance in Brevard County, Florida, home of Holiday Builders'
corporate offices. Apollo 11 launched from the Kennedy Space Center (Cape Kennedy). Brevard County, dubbed The Space Coast, is now home to several private enterprises including SpaceX and Blue Origin which share Cape Canaveral with NASA.Visit NASA's website
